Where your data lives: deletion and privacy boundaries
Where your content is stored
Brim is local-first: your notes, tags, and image attachments live on your own device first (in the app container, UserDefaults, or the App Group container), so capturing and reading work fully offline.
If you're on Pro with iCloud sync turned on, your notes, attachments, tags, recycle-bin state, and related metadata sync through Apple CloudKit into your own Apple iCloud account, keeping Mac and iPhone in step (requirements in iCloud sync requirements and troubleshooting).
If iCloud is unavailable, the app falls back to local-only storage and keeps working on that device.
Can the developer read your content?
No. iCloud sync is provided by Apple; Brim's developer runs no servers that read or host your notes. The app bundles no third-party advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs, never actively collects precise location, and never sends your note content to a developer-operated server.
Purchase entitlement details (such as product and transaction identifiers, subscription status, and expiration dates) are cached only on the device, so your entitlement keeps working offline or on a flaky network.

What deleting and uninstalling actually do
- Deleting a note: notes deleted in the app go to the recycle bin; the recycle-bin state syncs through iCloud as well.
- Uninstalling the app: uninstalling removes the app's local data on that device, including notes that were never synced. With iCloud sync enabled, whatever has already synced stays in your iCloud account and comes back when you reinstall and sign in with the same iCloud account.
- Wiping iCloud data completely: you can delete Brim's cloud data from your device's iCloud storage management.
